It genuinely make you believe that you are in a post apocalyptic world filled with zombies and since on your own you are not vulnerable but practically a walking talking dinner holding a bell, you need the other three to help you up when you park you buttock down for a little sleep, and to get jumping and long tongued zombies from trying to give you a heart and lung transplant. This is eliminated by making it so that the player actually needs the other three. What I did love was that fact that unlike most zombie games that have you in a team to fight a horde of undead is that the player can not get immersed in the game since the NPCs' or the coop player goes around taking all the health kits and that ammunition leaving the main player fighting on his or her last leg, while the second player/NPC complains that you died so many times or that you are holding them up. 4 missions in all and each one only took me about an hour to go through it, and I had already been slowing the pace down and exploring the terrain. It is fun to blast thousands upon thousands of zombie's to kingdom come, but the missions are rather short and so the campaign is kind of on the short stumpy side. As with many of Valves products, the game play is extremely well execute, however, the problem that can execute the game is, ironically, the game play.

The physics behind it is realistic enough for a person who demands absolute realism in their games and entertainment to be happy and silly enough so that every other person can crack a smile after blowing the 15th million zombie from one side of the street to the other. I won't lie this is a very well made game that incorporates an excellent use of Valves' source engine.

Mode players may play as a Survivor or as one of four types of "Boss Infected." Each of the "Boss Infected" possesses an exceptional mutant ability - such as a 50-foot tongue lasso (Smoker) or a giant belly full of explosive methane gas (Boome) - instead of traditional firearms. This makes for a different experience each time the game is played.
This is facilitated by the AI Director, a pool of systems used to procedurally generate a unique experience by monitoring the players' experiences and tailoring the pacing and difficulty of action for each game. Next generation AI technology powers all non-player Survivor and zombie characters. The team of four Survivors may be comprised of 1 to 4 human players, allowing for single player and multiplayer co-op games. The campaigns link together to tell the story of the Survivor's escape to safety. Each campaign has an over-riding team objective, and is comprised of five large maps. The Survivor Co-op Game Mode is played out across four sprawling campaigns, set in urban and rural environments. Set in a modern day survival-horror universe, the co-operative gameplay of L4D casts four "Survivors" in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying "Boss Infected" mutants. Left 4 Dead (L4D) is a new action title from Valve, creators of the Counter-Strike and Half-Life games, that promises to redefine the co-operative genre as those titles did for multiplayer and single player action games.
